Camping Trip to Interlochen State Park, August 2008

Including Sleeping Bear Dunes and Old Mission Point.

Marian is doing her favorite thing: shopping at a fruit stand. I have to admit that she got the best sweet cherries that we have ever had.

We took a ride to Old Mission which is at the of tip of the thin peninsula by Traverse City

Lake Michigan

Simon had to go out and play. That is Eric watching him. In some years, this is all under water.

This is the Old Mission lighthouse.

We stopped at a beach on the way back.

Lots of gulls by the beach.

The Dune Climb at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

They were buzzing all around.

Valerie, Lauren, Jennifer, Ed, and Simon before the climb.

Simon is more interest in playing in the sand than climbing the dunes.

It's a long way up.

Jennifer and Eric encouraging me to come.

Simon says it's the best sandbox he has seen.

Cresting the dune.

Ed and Simon go for the very top of the dunes.

Eric goes to the top of another hill.

Simon and Ed approach the very top.

Lauren had a little sand in her shoe.

Simon gets to play.

"I'm thirsty after my big climb!"

"That was good."

O.K., it's time to run around again.

Note the right-hand column. It's about watching out for cougars.

How would you like to be dragged to shore in one of these babies?

This climb used to be twice as hard. There has been a lot of erosion and it is not as steep as it used to be. People used to labor for hours climbing it.

Back to camping. Eric is reading Simon a book.
