Greenfield Village, MI 10/03

Dave, Robin, Marge, and Roger went to Greenfield Village. We had a great time. Here's a description from their website: "What began as Henry Ford’s remarkable vision of a vast outdoor museum filled with historic buildings comes alive in a whole new way. From its parlors and workshops to its storefronts and farms, powerful stories surround you with the sights and sounds of America’s past. Memorable events, historic re-creations and live demonstrations of American ingenuity and crafts add to the celebration".

You can ride on old horse-drawn carriages, Model T's, an old-time train, and even a paddle boat.

The staff dresses in period costumes, demonstrates how the people lived in the period, and are very friendly.

I believe this is the first car Henry Ford built.

This is the Wright brother's cycle shop.

One of Henry Ford's first experimental shops.

The animals are just beautiful, in fantastic condition, and you can even ride on them.

They've enclosed the carousel in a building to protect it from the weather.

He used one motor to power most of the machines.

Upstairs there is a chemical laboratory.

This is a phonograph. It records onto aluminum foil.

Each circle is individually sewn to the carpet.

Someone told us that they trapped birds in the top of this. There is a screen that turns and blocks the holes.

The pole coming down on the left has a wheel on it. To turn the windmill into the wind, you push on the wheel.

They cooked for a family of 8 in this fireplace.

It's amazing that 2 people can easily push the roundhouse.
