As you approach Wupatki from Sunset Crater, you can see part of the painted desert.
Wapatki
National Monument was at the crossroads between many Indian cultures
between 1100 and 1250. Homes were built using Anasazi methods but furnished with
Sunagua-style pottery, tools, and textiles. As with many of the other cultures
in the area, Wapatki was abandoned by 1250.
