Walnut Canyon National Monument, May 2003

Walnut Canyon has some examples of Sinagua cliff dwellings. They were built between 1125 and 1250.

Here are some of the ruins that you can see from the visitor's center.

As you can see, the canyon is pretty deep. They farmed on the plateau above and got water from the intermittent river below. Even with a nice trail, it's a long hike from the bottom to the top.
